The founding and present shareholders of Royal Mall, the Eriyagama family embarked into the hospitality trade in the early 90’s by managing “The Rest” hotel in Nuwara Eliya for many years. By managing of this hotel in the early years of tourism in Sri Lanka they gained invaluable experience and insight in the hospitality industry. It also berthed a desire to do more in the arena of hospitality, Hence in the same time the family decided to move to the historic city of Kandy to pursue their first venture, management of the restaurant and cafeteria of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Before long they earned a reputation for high quality of service. Then they leased out the “Avanhala” restaurant which is situated in the heart of Kandy City fronting famous Kandy Lake close to many tourist attractions such as the Temple of Tooth Relic.
